I think so that this new fashion is stolen by women. But the difference is clear: Women do wear what they want, men don’t because always afraid what other people might think when they would change something in their wardrobe. Boring pants is the only thing they want to wear.

Short skirts might be a very good option for men, it was the only wardrobe in past for men, never long skirts because just women wore long dresses. Kaftans are a kind of dress for men, and ankle-long.
I personally can’t understand why men do not follow the simplest rule to stay healthy and be comfortable. Men have their reproduction organs outside of their body, they should be stay cooler (minimum 1 degree cooler) then the rest of the body to be comfortable and healthy.
And what men are doing? Opposite things like wearing pants, and it doesn’t matter if this are long pants or shorts. No wonder that testicle and prostate cancer is just one of the results.
Guys, you have a lot to learn to be a “real”
man. Just let me know what is the reason that you are not following the simplest rule of life: Stay healthy?

No, I can’t answer your question, Mara. But I can tell you the simplest rule men following today in case of fashion: What are worn by other men must be right, can’t be wrong, so just follow the easiest way.
Wearing a skirt isn’t easy, and men have to learn about how to sit, stand, walk, bend down in a skirt. It is correct saying “real” men can wear a skirt because they are not changing behavior nor anything else if they are wearing a skirt or pants. I don’t know if I can do it, but I’ll going to try next week, with a men’s skirt in short style.

That torture chamber that can have permanent damage to the most important 3 things any man owns. Mara, one of most importanmt things why a man can’t wear a skirt is called peer pressure. My ex-wife was asking me to try a number of times in the run of the years, I did during her absence as I was not sure as to whether whe would realy want me to as she is ambivalent in a number of fields and under influence of medication. When she found out, the first reaction was grand, I have never experienced her so hot, but shortly after she had changed her mind and filed for divorce as I would be a wierdo and would have changed my life style.
Reading through the various blogs etc on this subject, also in Europe in the various languages, I do note that women in general say it is OK as long as it is not their husband/partner. I do notice that there is a small group that is more open minded, but few realise eventhough they go to museums where they can see garments worn in past ages, that the skirt was unisex in the past. Clothing in general is, didn’t Adam and Eve start of with Vig leaves?

Thanks for your comments. But I see one light at the horizon: More men wearing skirts, especially in our area.
MY concern actually was to find out if men can live healthier in skirts because my husband has a problem with his prostate -not really a cancer but very close- and a physician recommended wearing a skirt instead using pants, and I want to know if this is already a common known treatment or not. I did not get an answer so far, but I would do all I can to make it easier and healthier for men, especially for my husband.
I don’t care if he is wearing a skirt or pants, it is the person in the clothes which makes the difference, not the kind of clothes.

Jo; Really, I can’t follow that was happen in your case. Wearing a skirt is nothing else that following a trend fashion, and so far it has nothing to do with life-style change. The only change is wearing a skirt instead pants what women already do. So, I think your ex-wife was just dealing with double standards.
My husband as example tells me what he want to wear, and he’s wearing kilts and skirts. He never would tell me what I have to wear and so I never tell him what he never has to wear. Although, I sometimes make comments to help him in his combination possibilities what matches with his skirts. He helps me (even it is little) in the same way, when I am dressing up in skirts, dress or pants. That is that what we promissed at our wedding-day each other.

Sometimes it is clearly a question about intelligence and education, but it not question about that somebody may be a wierdo (one of that word construction which isn’t really possible in real life), because judging that we all have a touch of weirdiness.

I am the boss of Jürgen: we are accustomed at his skirts. After a few days it was normal that he comes at work in a skirt, it is ok. He makes his work just as wearing trousers.

Juergen64, there is nothing wrong with female or wearing female clothes but I think we shouldn’t call skirts just female clothes.
Skirts are unisex, but most people don’t recognize it.

Actually there is no problem men wearing skirts - except some people can’t understand it. But that shouldn’t be the problem.
We just suffering with the problem that a lot of men are not encouraged to wear something differently - that’s all. To come up with new ideas isn’t the problem - but to do it!

Lately I visited our wonderful museum. Two men in skirts, one in a kilt. Terrific how they looked! Even the one man in his short jeans-skirt (his wife was in pants) and black panties looked awsome - I don’t know why, but I am starting to admire this guys which are so brave and encouraged.

1st. Jo….what’s a VIG leaf? you certain you don’t mean what Adam and Eve wore, FIG leaves? I’ve heard of Vig before, but as a shortcut to Vigor or Vinegar or the extra you pay a mobster for loaning you money when you pay it back..known as Vigorish. or Vig for short.

2nd. Skirts, kilts, sarongs, trousers, pants, or any other kind of clothes is not “women’s clothes or men’s clothes, it’s whomever is wear it’s clothes. If I’m wearing it and it’s a skirt, it’s MEN’S WEAR because I’m a man and I’m wearing it. If a woman is wearing Levi Jeans, they are Women’s wear because a woman is wearing them. geez, its not brain surgery… :D :D :D

Skirtedman, do you know, there are some differences in clothes connected to the sex? IMO fashion trends are simply not for men. Men aren’t interested in what’s going on the fashion shows, simply wear clothes they can buy in the shop and other men wear. So it means, female dress for us won’t catch on. The only way to popularize men’s skirts is to wear a kilts, and to demand selling kilt-like garments in the shops. Do you know that almost a half of men in the world wear skirts? But mainly outside Western culture, in our region skirts are totally feminized (Scotland is the only one exception). There are some reasons (comfort and health gain for example) causes that kilts or other skirts for men have to be populazrized.

I’m not going to address the “meat” of what Strikemaster said as I believe him to be an illiterate fool who hasn’t researched what he has said to find out if his beliefs are valid. It’s only cloth cut in different ways. The 2 legs of a woman under a skirt are no different than the 2 legs of a man under a skirt. A man’s legs and a woman’s legs have no differentiating by sex good or bad points. Everything different between the sexuality of a woman and a man is “above” the thighs. Most skirts are worn from the waist to “below” the thighs. Only very very short micro mini skirts are worn “above” the thighs. I’ve personally, or on the “web” never seen one on a man.

Most men that are normally endowed, would be immodest if they wore a micro mini skirt. So I admit that micro mini skirts are the distinct property of females.

The “other” million styles of skirts worldwide can be worn by men modestly and might I say, VERY comfortably.

Men wearing pants or trousers of any kind is a holdover from Victorian times that have passed into history over 100 years ago. Men don’t “need” to wear trousers for “any” health reason, in fact the opposite is definitely better for them, crotches ( I refer to crotches as “torture chambers”) add to the percentages of men getting prostate cancer and other sex related diseases having to do with the heat generated in the crotch from tight tubes around each leg instead of an open area for both legs to reside in.

So “Strikemaster” please take your opinions and stick them where the sun don’t shine. Notice I said “Please” I wouldn’t want to be considered unfriendly.

Skirtedman, I’m not against skirts for men! Maybe in USA men are generally inerested in fashion, there, where I live, no. I think, wearing a kilt or Utilikilt is mach better way to defeminization of skirts. I know that through the history men wore “a million styles of skirts” but now kilt is the only one type of skirt associated to men in Europe and North America. I know the man’s and woman’s legs have the same shape, but society don’t know that the man’s and woman’s skirt may have the same look, it’s not my fault.

Look dimwit, I’m NOT a SCOT. I don’t LIKE Kilts, any breeze at all and they blow up in your face unless you have a 50 pound bag hanging on the front.
Kilts ARE accepted. WE ALREADY KNOW THAT. We’re trying to get skirts accepted too.
With your mentality, 300 years ago in the time of Louis the 14th of France, you’d be fighting for all men to wear big curly wigs because it was already accepted. Thank the powers that be you weren’t there then to keep pushing men down and keeping them in the same box they’ve been in for 2,000 years in the West.

Bess; Thanx, I have the feeling you are right, even worse, it might be an excuse for her to hide that she had relational priorities outside our marriage with a girlfriend who told her how to dress. Tha was really awfull and it was called fashionable and trendy!

Mara: my urologist did advise me to wear clothing which would provide ample freedom, nothing that would be tight. I arrived back from abroad just a few hours ago. I sat in the car for 11.5 hours - approx 800 miles - and yes I had to pull down the crotch of my trousers quit often for comfort (I wasn’t by myself in the car).

Who the heck is Jonathan Black? Some author that wrote a book? There are millions of authors worldwide, BEING an author does not make them right. Just ask any Muslim if women rule the world. After all, far more people in this world believe in Allah than believe in Jesus. In the Muslim world, a woman in pants gets a flogging with a whip. Does that seem as if the men consider them superior?
I’m not a Muslim or a supporter of them, just pointing out ONE more time that one person’s opinion is not the ONLY valid opinion. Mine isn’t, neither is yours, OR J. Black’s.
I’m truly sorry Strikemaster is stuck in his box, but I’m out of mine and don’t expect to be stuck in it ever again. I’ll wear what I please, regardless of what anyone tries to make me do. By the way, I originally got started wearing a straight skirt by a Doctor’s prescription for a medicinal wrap from my belly button to my knees that cost $700.00 and had to be replaced 3 times a year as it wasn’t washable. He then suggested a straight skirt off ebay for $4.00 would do the same job and was washable. I have 3 slipped discs in my back and can’t afford the surgery. Having tried the skirt and gone from 240 hydrocodones a month to none and a skirt..I’ll keep the skirt on and my mind intact. (unlike what it was with the codiene). The freedom of wearing the skirt and the comfort besides the medicinal usage is fantastic, if you’ve not tried it, you shouldn’t knock it.
I play Bingo twice a week and when I played in pants, I stood up 20 times a night to shake my “boys” out. Since I wear a skirt, I only stand to scream BINGO!!!

To start of with you question who Mr Jonathan Black might be. It is the alias of Mark Booth. His studies were Philosophy and Theology.

I.r.o. the slipped disks in your back, have you ever tried ortho manual therapy? It does work. For 10 USD/minute once every two years, just great. Paid for by the medical underwriter.
What helps also is hanging from something just a bit higher than you are tall and walk forward, than twist your hips.
I myself have never experienced the comfort as described by you when my disks were slipped, by changing attire. Maybe by using breeches in stead of a belt, the same result would have been obtained or is it a mere cry for attention?

As to your ideas concerning the Islam, there are sufficient Muslims who will not practise as described by you. E.g. Indonisia is the world largest Islam community (Islam does not equal Muslim, Muslims are a sub group in the Islam world) where things as described by you are not practised. Even if one compares the habits of the inhabitans of Casablanca in Marocco and the people living in the Riff mountains, there is a world of difference.

As to the question whether or not a skirt can be worn by a man, whether or not to be called a Kilt, that is something else. If one goes to Greece, the formal guards doe wear something that resembles a skirt wih opaque pantyhose. I do think that the problem lies more in how the perception came men in skirt is a no-no into the world. One of the first persons to do so as far as I could trace is Mr. Binet, psychiatrist in the late 1800’s, living in Nice France. When he concluded after having done research that such should be considered deviant behaviour, he neglected to look into what was common in the countryside. In those days research might have been the justification to satisfy the needs of the public. Now a days we would call it marketing.

For those who do not read German, I’ll translate the remarks by Jurgen: When a women goes to a menswear department, nobody takes notice of it. If a man tries on clothes at the ladies department is that doubtfull or overly femenised. If not why don’t men than just try on a skirt, a dress or even heels or whatever?

Houston, we have a problem. Now, after many years of showing a variety of men’s skirts by the designers, those aren’t still selling. Thus we have two ways, we (with the fashion setters of course) can continue current action. It will take years (or maybe decades). During that time men won’t be encouraged enogh to wear skirts so numerous men will fall to the prostate and testicular diseases).
Or we can simply promote kilt-like skirts (that not means only traditional kilts! Watch Utilikilt, is lighter made of cotton and worn without sporran). The second way would be easier and faster than the first one.

Skirtedman, did I write that I live in country where are no Scots? I’m not a Scotsman too and I’m the second kilted guy in my town (there are no guys in an other-styled skirts except transvestites), so, what You suggest?

You just echo the same garbage I get from the X Marks the Scot site. They all (and you) seem to believe that a kilt is not a skirt. IT IS. Any garment that employs putting two legs in one tube is a skirted garment, and that includes “kilts”, kikoy, sarongs, lavalavas, sulu, tupenu, Lungi, Männerock,(your German friend should know this one),Caftan, CAssock, Dashiki, Dhoti, Dishdasha, Djellaba, Fustenella (a short pleated SKIRT worn by men in Greece and Albania),Gho, Hakama, Kain, Kikepa, Kimono, Laplap, Longyi, Sapeta, Pareo, Paso, Robe, Kikepa,Thobe, tunic, Yukata, and probably a few more that I haven’t listed.
