10. Stone Island Ice Jacket

What it Is:
Spotted by Karol Rosolen, ESAMC Coolhunt ‘10, Brazil.
The company Stone Island was set up in the 1970’s but has continually managed to keep itself fresh and on the cutting edge. Inspired by harsh work environments the clothing has a certain aesthetic that appeals to the need to be functional and protective. The Ice Jacket is a new idea in a reinterpreted package. The jacket changes color when the temperature outside is between 10 and 15 degrees Celcius. As the Italian Wait Fashion notes, it’s a beautifully cut. It changes colors through the liquid crystals.
Why it's cool:
The student noted that she was attracted to the jacket because it actually does something. It isn’t just another jacket, but a jacket that catches your attention.
Science of the Time’s interpretation:
The technology used by the company is showing how one can push limits and pushing people to imagine more. A jacket can tell more than just the colors. We have already seen American Apparel and their thermochromatic t-shirts and there is more research being done on clothing that adjusts itself according to the wearers body temperature. This is going to lead to more products that protect us without us having to tell them to protect us.
