The Better World
After 9/11 our Coolhunters told us: “Of course, I love my fucking Prada shoes but there are more important things to do in this world, aren’t there?” Since then, the mentality behind this quote has intensified in many parts of the world.
First we saw it evolve into the mentality trend we called “The New Resilience” (predicted for: 2003-2005). Then came the mentality trend “Guts and Positivity” ( predicted for 2006-2007), plus the rising attention and worries regarding “The Environment” (predicted for 2007 and further).
Now we see it all come together into Cool Mentality trend “The Better World.”
Oh yes, The Credit Crunch, and recession as a consequence, is painful. But also purifying.
Oh yes, the Environment is dangerously polluted. But the energy to change it for the better, innovatively and with worldwide stamina, is convincingly growing.
Oh yes, casino capitalism and hot air speculations do shake us, but it also gives birth to a new optimism.
Pessimists might be right more often than optimists. But all the mayor changes for the good come from optimists, never from pessimists!

“Worldchanging: A User’s Guide for the 21st Century is a compendium of solutions, some little known but well proven, some innovative and new, some bold but as yet untried. This book not only shows what is already possible, but also helps all of us to imagine what might be—in our own homes, in our communities, and for the planet as a whole. Taken together, these solutions present a picture of a future that is not dark or catastrophic, but one that is full of hope and within our grasp.
To build that future, we need a generation of everyday heroes, people who—whatever their walks of life—have the courage to think in fresh ways and to act to meet this planetary crisis head-on. This book belongs in the library of every person who aspires to be part of that generation.”
